Historia de Palmela en pocas líneas:
Origins:
Palmela tiene raíces prerromanas, pero tomó forma como asentamiento importante bajo romanos y visigodos. Los árabes fortificaron la colina en el siglo VIII, sentando la base del futuro castillo.
Middle Ages:
Durante la Reconquista, Palmela fue conquistada definitivamente por los cristianos en el siglo XII. Más tarde se convirtió en sede de la Orden de Santiago, lo que impulsó su importancia militar y administrativa. El castillo dominó la región como punto estratégico entre Setúbal y Lisboa.
19th Century:
En el siglo XIX, Palmela se consolidó como núcleo agrícola y vinícola, destacando el desarrollo del moscatel y la expansión de los viñedos locales. La modernización de las comunicaciones reforzó su papel como enlace entre el interior y la costa.
Present:
Hoy, Palmela es conocida por su castillo panorámico, su tradición vinícola (parte clave de la región de Setúbal) y su patrimonio histórico bien conservado. Combina cultura, paisaje natural y vino, siendo un destino muy apreciado en el sur de Portugal.
No merece mucho la pena gastar tiempo aquí, hay muchísimos pueblos que sí merece la pena visitar.
Palmela se combina muy bien con Évora si buscas una ruta por pueblos tranquilos, castillos y zonas vinícolas del interior.
