Évora (Nov. 10, 25):
A brief history of Évora:
Origins:
Founded by the Romans, Évora preserves the Roman Temple as a symbol of its classical past and its importance in Lusitania.
Middle Ages:
It became a walled city with great religious and cultural significance, notably the construction of the Cathedral and numerous convents.
19th Century:
It experienced its golden age as an intellectual and artistic center, driven by the University of Évora and the rise of humanism.
Present:
Today it is a World Heritage Site, famous for its historic center, the Capela dos Ossos and its Alentejo gastronomy, offering a unique blend of tradition and tranquility.
Évora is the capital of the Alentejo region, but for me personally it's not really worth it; you can stop if it's on your way, but that's about it.
It combines very well with a visit to Alcácer do Sal, especially if you're looking for a route through quiet villages, history and nature in the Alentejo.
