Cascais (Nov. 9, 2025):
History of Cascais in a few lines:
Origins:
Cascais began as a small fishing village on the Atlantic coast, inhabited since prehistoric times and with a Roman presence in the region.
Middle Ages:
For centuries it was a village dedicated to fishing and maritime trade, protected by its fortress against pirate attacks.
19th Century:
It became a summer destination for the Portuguese nobility when King Luís I chose Cascais as his summer residence, which boosted its urban development.
Present:
Today it is a sophisticated tourist city, famous for its beaches, marina, historic center and its proximity to Lisbon, combining tradition and modernity.
It's worth it, in a manner of speaking... let me explain... it's a small fishing village, but it's actually very pretty. It's worth taking a stroll, but that's about it. Parking is impossible, firstly because of the sheer number of tourists, and secondly because it's a paid parking zone every day of the week.
Walking around is great and you keep seeing fancy cars all the time, but don't even think about eating or having a drink because you're guaranteed to get ripped off.
You can also see "homeless" people who, when you approach them, greet you with a fart by shaking their butts; it gave us a huge fright and disgust.
There are several cool spots to see, especially one of the most famous, Boca do Inferno. It might be the furthest away, but you can easily walk all over Cascais. I didn't get a good photo because of the crowds, but it's truly amazing.

Head to Cabo da Roca for the breathtaking views. It's 15 km away, but it was on our route and not that far, so even if it doesn't work for you, I recommend going.

Cascais combines very well with a getaway to Ericeira, especially if you like coastal towns with a relaxed atmosphere.
