Palmela
It's not worth it
We took this trip visiting several cities and countries. Here's the complete route:

Palmela's story in a few lines:

Origins:

Palmela has pre-Roman roots, but it took shape as an important settlement under the Romans and Visigoths. The Arabs fortified the hill in the 8th century, laying the foundation for the future castle.

Middle Ages:

During the Reconquista, Palmela was definitively conquered by the Christians in the 12th century. Later, it became the headquarters of the Order of Santiago, which boosted its military and administrative importance. The castle dominated the region as a strategic point between Setúbal and Lisbon.

19th Century:

In the 19th century, Palmela consolidated its position as an agricultural and wine-producing center, notably with the development of Muscat grapes and the expansion of local vineyards. The modernization of communications reinforced its role as a link between the interior and the coast.

Present:

Today, Palmela is known for its panoramic castle, its winemaking tradition (a key part of the Setúbal region), and its well-preserved historical heritage. It combines culture, natural landscapes, and wine, making it a highly regarded destination in southern Portugal.

General conclusions ✦✦

It's not really worth spending time here; there are many other towns that are worth visiting.
Palmela combines very well with Évora If you're looking for a route through quiet villages, castles and inland wine regions.
