Langkawi history in a few lines:

Origins:

Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, with a history linked to legends and maritime trade. Its name is associated with the Malay word for "red eagle.".

Legend:

The most famous is that of Mahsuri, a woman unjustly accused and executed, who cursed the island for seven generations. This story is part of the local cultural identity.

Historical period:

For centuries it was a strategic point for Arab, Chinese, and Indian traders. It also suffered pirate attacks and regional conflicts.

Colonialism:

Under British rule in the 19th century, Langkawi remained an agricultural and fishing area.

Present:

Since the 1980s, it has developed as an international tourist destination, with idyllic beaches, natural parks, and the famous Sky Bridge. Today it is part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.

General conclusions ✦✦

They speak very softly, their pronunciation in English (the few who speak it) is horrible, the food is quite spicy but very tasty, and they are incredibly kind and helpful. Do not go on excursions programmed by them, they are quite a scam.

It's a little paradise island, although you might be surprised to see plastic on the beaches. They're not very developed in this area and seem to think it's harmless to litter. There are many volunteers who help clean the beaches. Some hotels have trash cans and plastic collection points for this purpose.

Renting a 125cc scooter is a must; it costs €7 a day and filling the tank is about €0.60. No experience is necessary; you can learn in a minute. It's like a bicycle, with no gears. The roads are excellent, and other drivers are very respectful. There isn't much traffic, they drive very calmly, and exploring the whole island this way is a joy (just keep in mind that they drive on the left, as it was a British colony).

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and it's true… Pure happiness 😅:

People are incredibly friendly everywhere and try to help you with everything. There's no crime or theft.

Eating is very cheap and everything is very good, you won't have stomach problems, but be sure to bring cash because they don't accept cards, only Alipay but we haven't been able to get them to accept our Spanish bank account.

The beaches are really cool, warm, relaxing and not crowded at all.

Black Sand BeachWe came across this small beach with its mixed black and white sand. It's a very photogenic spot, ideal for relaxing, although swimming isn't recommended due to the rocky areas. Before reaching the beach, there are street vendors. Children usually accompany their mothers; you don't typically see fathers working with the public.

Tanjung Rhu Beach: The best beach:

I❤️ Langkawi PosterFacing Cengang Beach, one of the most popular:

Letrero Langkawi

Eagle Square: is the symbol of Langkawi:

Aguila Langkawi

Ann Sate: Large beach bar in the center. It's very cheap and everything is delicious. There's another stall next door selling kebabs that they'll bring to your table without any problem since the terrace is shared (but the minimum order is 10 pieces, which cost 10 MYR, that is, about €2).

And with our Watermelon smoothies, where we've become truly addicted:

Durian Perangin waterfall: It's not a huge waterfall, but it's pretty cool. You can swim. They close at 7 pm and the entrance fee is 2 MYR, which is about 40 cents. We loved it!

Cactus restaurant: Typical food, run by very friendly and helpful women. Payment is in cash.

Come on, I'm not going to make those tacky swing videos everyone's making! I'd rather jump off a bridge... P.S.: There are no bridges in Langkawi 😭!!!
