Warsaw (Oct. 31 to Nov. 3, 21):

Varsovia
Yes, it's worth it

History of Warsaw in a few lines:

Origins:

Warsaw emerged as a small settlement in the 13th century on the banks of the Vistula River. It became an important trading center thanks to its strategic location on European trade routes.

Middle Ages:

In the 15th century, Warsaw began to grow, and in 1596 it became the capital of the Kingdom of Poland. Its political and cultural role was consolidated during this period.

19th Century:

During the 19th century, Warsaw was under Russian rule following the partitions of Poland. It was the scene of nationalist uprisings and suffered severe repression.

Present:

After the devastation of World War II, the city was almost completely rebuilt. Today it is the capital of Poland, an economic and cultural center, and its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

General conclusions ✦✦

Due to the Holocaust, it's a completely rebuilt city. It has a rich culture and the people are very friendly.

General summary: We liked it a lot even though it gets dark at 4pm in October.

  • Palace of Culture and Science: An imposing building, but we liked it more from the outside than the inside.

  • The Death Train: It's a memorial to the deported Polish Jews. It's not in the guidebook, and we stumbled upon it by chance. It's a must-see, but it's not for the faint of heart; it gave us goosebumps.

  • Copernicus Science Centre: If you like buttons and having fun like kids touching everything, you definitely can't miss it.

Prices ✨💰
  • Flight: €54/person round trip with Ryanair.

  • Hotel:  Palace of Culture, modern city center suite: €85 for 2 people and 3 nights.

We were greeted by the owner, who was very friendly and polite. He explained how everything worked in the house. Everything was very tidy and clean, and it's very centrally located; you can walk everywhere. We loved the house itself, and it was also very spacious and affordable. We were wearing masks, so the price may have gone up since then.
Required documentation 📋

Information obtained from the web https://www.exteriores.gob.es

  • Passport/ID: Valid with either of the 2.

  • European Health Insurance Card: It's necessary, it's very easy to order online and they send it to your home. Request.

  • Vaccines: There are no mandatory vaccinations for entry.

  • International driving permit: It is requested through the DGT website.

It costs €10.51. The good thing is you can order it online and pick it up without an appointment. It took a couple of days for ours, then you go to pick it up and it's a cardboard card like the ones they had 20 years ago.

  • Payment card/currency exchange: we always go with Revolut definitely.

  • Roaming: Yeah.
