History of Koprivshtitsa in a few lines:

Origins:

Founded in the 14th century, Koprivshtitsa developed as a small village in the Balkan Mountains of Bulgaria.

Era of the National Renaissance:

During the 18th and 19th centuries, it became a cultural and economic center, famous for its merchants and artisans.

Historical relevance::

It is known for being one of the main focuses of the April Uprising of 1876 against the Ottoman Empire, a key event in the struggle for Bulgarian independence.

It preserves colorful Bulgarian Renaissance houses, with typical courtyards and decorations, which are now museums.

It is a cultural tourist destination, a symbol of Bulgarian national identity and a stage for folk festivals.

General conclusions ✦✦

It's a small town, but it's beautiful and has a lot of history. You have time to explore it on your own, although we did a guided tour. It's colder than other parts of Bulgaria.

Koprivshlitsa combines very well with Plovdiv to connect a traditional Bulgarian Renaissance village with a nearby historic city, and with Sofia for the ease of getting away from the capital and short road trips.
